About

Pianist Kyle P. Walker is an Artist Faculty member at NYU Steinhardt and a passionate advocate for music’s power to connect people and inspire change. His performances spotlight underrepresented composers alongside Bach, Beethoven, and other classical masters, revealing how music carries stories across cultures and time.

He has appeared at major venues including Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and performs regularly with The Harlem Chamber Players. Kyle leads a thriving private piano studio based in New York and New Jersey and works with students online around the world. Through his ongoing Bach to BlackNotes project, he invites audiences to hear classical music as a living, evolving conversation that honors its past while celebrating its future.

Music

I’m drawn to music that tells a story—whether it’s the intricate architecture of Bach or the resilience and innovation found in works by composers like Florence Price, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Irene Britton Smith, and Margaret Bonds. Much of what I play explores the intersections between European tradition and Black musical heritage, revealing how these worlds inform one another. My programs often move between familiar classics and rediscovered gems, tracing how music carries both personal and cultural history forward.
