About

Josh Halpern has appeared on stages around the world as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral principal cellist. A dedicated advocate of contemporary music, he has worked with composers including Bruce Adolphe, Richard Danielpour, Henrique Eisenmann, Scott Ordway, Kevin Puts, and Kaija Saariaho, and in 2025 debuted "In Real Time," a commissioning series built on deep year-long collaborations with composers. He has served as guest member of the Rolston, Varian Fry, and Aeolus String Quartets, as well as the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic. Josh is founder and Executive & Artistic Director of the Cultural Caravan, a Colorado-based organization presenting 35+ concerts a year and reinvesting nearly $1 million into the community. He studied at Rice University with Desmond Hoebig and the Curtis Institute of Music with Carter Brey and Peter Wiley. He performs on a Domenico Busan cello on long-term loan from the Stretton Society.

Anything and everything! The standard Western Classical repertoire, contemporary music, as well as the occasional collaboration in traditions from Brazil, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Ghana, or Nepal. Music is music!
