Brahms 7 Fantasies Op. 116
Intermission
Brahms 6 Pieces Op. 118
Brahms 4 Pieces Op. 119
Brahms is one of the most celebrated German romantic composers, merging the structural discipline of Bach and Beethoven with a highly emotional and lyrical sensibility. The three sets of pieces on this program were composed only a few years before he died, and comprise most of his last compositions for piano (he wrote a fourth set of pieces, Op. 117, which didn't fit into this program). Brahms was also a virtuoso pianist, and had a deep knowledge of what the instrument could do. Come join me for an exploration of this musical genius's depth, maturity, and creativity at the end of his life.
