What's the music?
Bach to the Future
Marvento Duo presents a program which juxtaposes the music of J.S. Bach with contemporary selections by living composers. The program includes solo and duo selections for flute and piano, in a counterpoint of old and new. Contemporary works explore the themes of exploration and travel, inviting audiences to consider voyages through time, space, history, and memory. The performers have made a special effort to present a program which features a majority of women composers.
J.S. Bach: Sonata for Flute in B minor
J.S. Bach: Prelude and Fugue in C Major (Well-Tempered Clavier Book II)
Emma O'Halloran: Pencilled Wings
Reena Esmail: Jhula Jhule
Clara Schumann: Three Romances
Nadia Boulanger: Piece for Cello and Piano (transcribed for flute and piano)
Carl Vine: Sonata for Flute and Piano
