One of the most profound and mystical powers of the music we worship here at Groupmuse is its ability to wordlessly embody spirit of place. To hear a Dvorak Sextet is to, on some level, intimately know the feeling of Bohemia - even if you’ve never been. To be swept away in a Sibelius symphony is to feel the northerly winds of Finland on your face - even if you can’t find Finland on a map.
The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) has a far ranging evening in the works celebrating this very power and they want us there for a Night Out!
We start with the Frenchiest possible Frenchman - Claude Debussy and his entirely perfect and strange Cello Sonata.
Then we’re off to the landscapes of Armenia, with Aram Khachaturian and his Clarinet Trio.
We stop with a new work from the tiny, lovely isle of Wales - a quintet by Huw Watkins, a living, breathing Welshman.
We finish with the German-born Brahms and his breathtaking, magisterial, enormous tidal wave of a Sextet - No. 2 in G major, one of the grandest and most splendid works in the chamber music rep.
And it’s all brought to you by one of the world’s finest group of chamber players - CMS.
The tickets typically run $67 on average, but we’ve got a nice, big Groupmuse-exclusive discount for a mere $25 - way more than half off!
But these won’t last, so if you want to be a part of it, make your move!
And have a great Night Out!
