Experience Bach’s Goldberg Variations in a whole new light as pianist Simone Dinnerstein joins A Far Cry for a bold, genre-bending reimagining of one of classical music’s most iconic masterpieces at Boston’s Jordan Hall.

Arranged for piano and string orchestra by A Far Cry’s Alex Fortes and Sarah Darling in collaboration with Dinnerstein, this ten-years-in-the-making project draws out unexpected colors and possibilities hidden within Bach’s original—from trio-sonata textures and grand courtly orchestrations to a jazz-inflected walking bass and even a church chorale. Piano and strings trade, mirror, and transform the music, with surprises ranging from intimate bass-and-piano duets to the orchestra literally singing and Dinnerstein reaching inside the piano to pluck its strings.

First premiered in 2016 to rave reviews, this arrangement makes full use of Bach’s written repeats, meaning almost nothing is heard the same way twice. And this performance marks a special moment in the project’s history: Following the performance, A Far Cry and Dinnerstein will head to Mechanics Hall to record the work for a forthcoming album.

Through Groupmuse Nights Out, get tickets worth over $100 for only $25, a steal!—an extraordinary opportunity to experience Bach’s Goldbergs transformed in ways you’ve never heard before. 🎹🎻

Stay after the concert to socialize with your fellow groupmusers and enjoy a complimentary dessert and wine reception!
