Step into a night where voice, history, and sonic imagination converge in Sound On: Nathalie Joachim on May 22, presented by The NY Phil. Grammy-nominated composer and vocalist Nathalie Joachim takes center stage in a highly anticipated world premiere that, in her words, “reimagines, reframes, and reinterprets” music rooted in Caribbean, American, and Pan-African freedom movements—transforming layered histories into something immediate, embodied, and deeply resonant.

The program also features Lou Harrison’s radiant, Gamelan-inspired concerto, a work alive with rhythmic vitality and shimmering color. Performed with Philharmonic Assistant Concertmaster Michelle Kim as soloist and accompanied solely by percussion, it unfolds in kaleidoscopic textures that feel both intimate and expansive. Together, these works create an evening that is bold in spirit and rich in cultural dialogue—an immersive listening experience where tradition and innovation move in striking conversation. 🎶
