Hear one of the world’s great clarinetists up close with Groupmuse Nights Out, offering discounted tickets to San Francisco Performances for a dazzling recital by Anthony McGill and Gloria Chien. When McGill made his SF Performances debut in 2024, the San Francisco Chronicle raved that the New York Philharmonic’s principal clarinetist “combines tonal splendor with flawless technique.” Now he returns with his longtime collaborator, the brilliant pianist Gloria Chien, whom the Boston Globe praised as an artist “who appears to excel at everything.” Together they bring a rare blend of virtuosity, warmth, and expressive nuance to the clarinet–piano repertoire.
The program sparkles with color and lyricism—from Debussy’s shimmering Première Rhapsodie and André Messager’s elegant Solo du Concours to the graceful charm of Saint-Saëns’ Clarinet Sonata. Romantic masterpieces round out the evening with Schumann’s poetic Fantasiestücke and Brahms’ richly expressive Clarinet Sonata in E-flat Major, Op. 120 No. 2. With Groupmuse Nights Out discounted tickets, this is a perfect chance to experience two extraordinary musicians in an intimate chamber setting—where every phrase sings and every moment feels electrifyingly alive. 🎶
Children 5 and over are welcomed.
