Please join us for a memorable and festive performance by Abiodun Koya, a classically trained singer, poet and serial entrepreneur from Nigeria, who has sung for the likes of Barack Obama, George W. Bush, other world leaders, and African Royalty.
Abi is one of the few professionally trained Classical singers of African descent of her generation. Her creative efforts have been to purposefully display a positive message and influence diverse cultures across America and the rest of the world. Part of her humanitarian works include raising funds to help female Nigerian inmates start small businesses upon release.
Her varied program will include arias, popular classics, Broadway tunes, as well as songs from Sub-Saharan Africa.
A sample of pieces which the program may include:
Ore Meta (African)
O mio babbino caro
Beautiful Dreamer
I Feel Pretty
Can’t Help Falling In Love
Moon River
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Time to say goodbye
What's the music?
I’m curating a program that feels personal, inviting, and emotionally varied, much like a conversation shared among friends. The music will move fluidly between classical arias, American standards, and selections inspired by world music. From the classical repertoire, I’m drawn to arias by composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Giacomo Puccini, whose music speaks directly to the heart. I chose this program to leave the audience feeling moved, uplifted, and connected.
