Prepare to witness an evening of chamber-music mastery as Miró Quartet returns to Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center at Alice Tully Hall on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 7 :30 pm.
The program features:
String Quartet in D major, Op. 71 No. 2 by Joseph Haydn — A late-period Haydn quartet, distinguished by mature architecture, spirited dialogue among the instruments, and the inventor of the string-quartet genre at full creative strength.
String Quartet No. 2, Op. 26 by Alberto Ginastera — Written in 1958, this work brings fiery Argentine rhythms, modernist boldness, and a raw intensity to the quartet idiom.
"Scherzo: Vivace" (from String Quartet in D major) by César Franck — A vivid selection from Franck’s only string quartet (1889), exploring French romantic chamber-music expression in a compact form.
String Quartet in G minor, Op. 10 by Claude Debussy — A seminal work from 1893, shimmering with Impressionist color, unconventional textures, and the quartet as an expressive canvas beyond classical form.
This program spans over 150 years of string-quartet evolution—from Haydn’s foundational masterpiece through Franck’s romantic edge, into Debussy’s swirling new sound-world and Ginastera’s modern leap. The Miró Quartet, celebrating its 30th anniversary, brings technical polish, emotional depth, and stylistic range to each of these works.
