Yes, it’s Beethoven’s 250th year, and yes his epic tone tales stand as a potent mirror for the storms, stresses, and heroism of these trying times, and yes - we’ll be ‘musing on more Beethoven in the week’s to come. But also: let’s make some room for Mozart. The ease, the sublimity, the mellifluous bubbling forth - sure it’s not a reflection of the unfolding global pandemonium, but we all need some sweet release. And so - there is the 92nd St. Y and there is Benjamin Hochman and there is a Friday night all-Mozart Livestream that’ll make for our 2nd ever Livestream Night Out!
Benjamin Hochman is one of the most brilliant pianists of the era — he’s played all over the world, in solo recitals and sitting before the orchestra. And his Mozart is beyond comparison. Such clarity, yet such depth.
Friday night’ll be the works - three mature masterpieces by Wolfgang Amadeus: his Fantasia in C Minor, K. 475, his Sonata No. 14 in C Minor, K. 457 and his Sonata No. 12 in F Major, K. 332.
The livestream will be available to the public starting at 7.30, but we’re organizing a before-and-after Zoom hangout session that starts at 7pm, for all of us humans who so need connection and communion in these times of isolation. We’ll organize breakout groups so that’ll we’ll all get chance to share story with one another to build our togetherness. These opportunities to be with one another through the ether have proven to be very popular with the community, so we hope you’ll join!
What’s more, before the show begins, the Artistic Director of 92nd St. Y, our brilliant friend Hanna Arie-Gaifman, will join us in Zoom to introduce the program.
Because Zoom’s capacity is limited, we are charging people $3 to reserve a spot and at the show, we’re asking that attendees contribute whatever they wish to support Groupmuse as it fights like heck for the life of this art form.
Can’t wait to see you there!
