 illed to host an evening of Brazilian choro with Ian Coury and Catherine B
 ent. Here they describe a bit about the origins of choro and about themsel
 ves:\n\n"We draw on 130+ years of Afro-European music forged in the coasta
 l cities of Brazil. Choro originated in Rio de Janeiro when music from Eur
 opean ballrooms was played on Brazilian soil by local musicians. Samba eme
 rged later from choro. Forró (dance music native to Bahia) flowed from th
 e same sources but resulted in different flavors and rhythms. We (Catherin
 e and Ian) love to play the traditional music of Pixinguinha\, Jacob do Ba
 ndolim\, Ernesto Nazareth\, Luiz Gonzaga\, Dominguinhos et al\, modern com
 posers like Guinga\, Hermeto Pascoal and Sivuca\, and our own compositions
 ."\n\nIan Coury is an award-winning 10-string bandolim player and composer
  from Brazil who has shared stages with Brazilian legends Toninho Horta an
 d Hamilton de Holanda. He is currently finishing his Berklee degree in Con
 temporary Writing and Production. English-born multi-style cellist \n\nCat
 herine Bent\, an alumna of Cirque du Soleil\, has performed and recorded w
 ith Joe Jackson\, Lee Konitz\, Patty Larkin\, and many others. Catherine i
 s an Associate Professor at Berklee\, teaching in multiple departments. Th
 e two have a musical connection that transcends their backgrounds and crys
 tallizes around their passion for Brazilian choro and forró. Since 2021 t
 hey have given more than 40 performances together in the US \nand Brazil.\
